My first thought: “Aw, that’s so nice of them, but … no.”
An art show. In a real gallery space.
A group of art-loving joy rebels reached out with an idea that surprised me and I just couldn’t shake. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of, but never thought would actually happen. Yet, here we are. It’s big and strange and now … it’s happening!
1,000 square feet. A gallery space to create an experience that’s both an artistic challenge and an exciting new way to connect with people.
So, Kristi and I aid yes.
Our exhibit, We Hope You Fail Better, officially opens November 9 at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts! The gallery is in this incredible space—once a booming pie factory! (so there’s literally a sweetness in the air when you walk in)— in Saugatuck, Michigan. We love it and them so much. The team there works year-round to bring their community together in the most artful ways to dream, play, explore, and grow. It is a great honor to partner with them on this project.
One part of the exhibit I’m especially excited about involves you.
We’re incorporating audio from you. Yes. YOU!

Leave a short encouraging message.
Make it the kind of thing you’d need to hear if you felt like a failure!
Blast out a hope-filled pep talk to a fellow human in need!
You can sing it. Whisper it. Shout it. Just leave a message! We want to be able to include voies young and old from all over the world.
Share your voice and become part of the exhibit!
After finishing Fail-a-bration, our book that celebrates embracing failure, we couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to explore. And this show? It’s that ‘more.’ It’s been an adventure of playful sculptures, scrappy scribbles, light bulb monsters, paintings, colorful banners, and lots that hasn’t gone as planned. It’s a peek behind the curtain of the creative process—from the first spark of an idea to sketches, failures, and breakthroughs.
I can’t wait for you to experience it with us. It’s going to be a fun, messy, and inspiring ride.
An art show. In a real gallery space. It’ll be even better with your voice as part of it!

I am so excited for this! As a Michigan resident and BIG fan of your work, I am delighted to have the opportunity to join this failabration!
