Thank you for sharing this story. I have this book on my shelf and this is a good reminder to revisit it, as I’m certainly a different grownup than when I first read it. Being a book author is so…odd, in that our books are objects, our “products” to sell, but they’re also our hearts, our time, unpackageable. A book really does have a life of its own. It’s confusing at times and such a roller coaster, and also, as you are showing us… Magic. I appreciate you and your work so, so much, Brad.

I bought a copy years ago. It actually made me think to myself, “why don’t I write a book?!?” Some years later, I did. It will “launch” in a few days. “Launch” is such a funny word coz it sounds as though I expect the book to rocket out into the world and it will be amazing and sooooo “sellable.” But the likelihood of it “going viral?” Slim. But I know in my heart that it’s a good book. And when people find it, they’re going to see and do differently. It will help that person come out of the fog. In that way, I guess, even if the book only “launches” to one person, I must allow that one person’s reading to be enough. A win is a win.
Crazy story, Brad: I was saving this post in my inbox for a slower moment. Just last week, I went on a cruise with my extended family and had long talks with my niece who is a high school senior. She is off to college to become a youth pastor after graduation, and I was reflecting on our discussion yesterday when I that your book would be perfect for her (I also have one of the cards from your shop to give her). Fast forward to this morning and reading this post and yes, indeed, the book is reaching the right people. That's some synchronicity, innit?
Here's to kids showing us the way to becoming better grownups and to the kids becoming better grownups themselves :)
