Love this!! We count our squirrels in the backyard!!
We sent out an invite to friends to help take down some dead trees for our neighbor. One, then 2, 3…. Ended up with 5 people- guys with chainsaws always a good “pull” AND we got the trees felled, wood for campfires and fireplaces…and new friendships!! Awesome time!? Community building at its core! 2 neighbors had not officially met…they have lived 5 houses away for 20 years until this event! Love bringing people together especially in service to others! And we painted Kindness rocks for our box at the end of the driveway to give/trade or hide!
Linda! This is one of my absolute favorite pieces of writing. It's about hummingbirds: https://theamericanscholar.org/joyas-volardores/ Might make a good companion for you as you spot them in the yard.
Squirrels are great, though here in the UK there's a hierarchy, Grey Squirrels are fine in urban areas, particularly in areas where they are the only squirrels, but they're bad in areas where our native Red Squirrels still live.
Love the (seemingly) absurd as a friendly, harmless diversion, especially with a beneficial purpose behind it. Let's all send out the invitations!
On that note: I invite everyone to enjoy the movie, Unfrosted. You might have to be a certain age to get all the references, but great characters (and the totally committed actors who portrayed them.). What fun! Also, check out the book, Cool Foods, by Robert Downey, Jr., and Thomas Kostigen. It's full of fascinating history and science in an easy read format and it inspires with actionable steps to reduce our carbon footprint. Just had to share my three favorite things (The Enthusiast being #1.)
Good stuff! Thank you, Brad!
I’m sure you’ll run into many squirrels to count this week in your work. Ha

Legends! Love this image of community and the ways you create space for that kind of spontaneous goodness to happen. So good!
I love how squirrels move. Like fluffy water!
Brad have you seen this? It’s one of the most beautiful conversations I’ve ever seen x

Ya made me smile! I don’t have squirrels in my back yard, but I have lizards and hummingbirds.
And may these absurd times help us learn to be more loving! ❤️

Juliet! So fascinating! I was just reading about this. The society of squirrels there in the UK is certainly a different dynamic.
The worst thing for the reds is that they're susceptable to a disease that the greys carry (but that the greys are resistant to)
I love watching the squirrels!
For more squirrel photos, check out the squirrels on the campus of the University of Oklahoma IG page.
