A few years ago, I started The Joyful Rebellion Email Newsletter. Many rebellions are fueled by anger or hate or various other destructive forces which burn fast and quick. Joy, though? Joy is generative. Joy creates more joy. A rebellion fueled by a joyful vision of what could and should be? That would be something.
First: An apology.
I’ve done a very poor job with this email. Fear, maybe? Overwhelming state of the world and internet? Uncertainty of what to say and how? Depression?
Over the last 5 years, I’ve only sent out a small handful of messages to you. This is an incredible email list of people. With your combined powers we make some real dents for good in this world.
Maybe I didn’t want to bother people. As Madeleine L’Engle once put it “Do I dare disturb the universe?” (It was in a speech she gave and a reference to a T.S. Eliot poem, but that’s a whole other thing for another time) Somehow, though, several things conspired to hold me back from sharing. For this — I’m sorry.
Second: An opportunity.
I want you to know that things are changing with this email list and I’d like you to be part of these changes. This email list is transforming into The Enthusiast. It will be a weekly collection of reminders that life is worth living.
Subscribed to this list already are people who are leaders of movements, raisers of families, planners of parties, champions of classrooms, builders of businesses, growers of gardens, creators of change. I invite you to stick around. You can help me shape this into the kind of community we can all be proud of.
You do, though, have full persmission to click unsubscribe. No judgement.
Next steps:
The Enthusiast will continue to be free. There are options where you can tip or support my work via subscription. But this is not required for admission, nor is it expected. If you’d like to do so, I’d of course be grateful. My deepest hope *really* is that you’ll find these email offerings so helpful that you want to share with people in your life. I want to work to earn that.
There are some really exciting things coming up and I cannot wait to share with you. People I want to introduce you to, stories to tell, love to be spread. Hope you’ll join me.
Thanks for reading. Thanks for supporting my work. Thanks for encouraging me.
So excited about this email! I can not wait for more! I read your book How to be a better grown up and I actually use the map with my fifth grader and it has helped so much with anxiety the students have. They are able to tell me where they are at (feelings) and where they want to be. They have added to the map with other drawings and areas. I have been teaching 34 years and this map is such an amazing tool. Can't wait to create more joy in my life, the life of others and in my fifth graders life! Thank you!
Looking forward to reading it! I'm a fan!
